Tip of the day for families

“Adventurous Wuhlheide” – preferably by bike

Rummaging around in the heathland or what? Long planned and handed over to the population about 100 years ago, with a sports field, a large forest meadow, a toboggan run, a hedge garden, a sand playground, a paddling pool and a flower meadow, a swimming pool and an adjacent meadow, which was also used as an ice rink in winter. Today, large old trees, enchanted paths, the family and recreation centre FEZ and other attractive experiences characterise the area. See for yourself!

Starting point:

S-Bahn Wuhlheide or Karlshorst with the Bicycle (from Wuhlheide 1.5 km, Karlshorst approx. 3.5 km)

Experience 1: Climbing Forest Wuhlheide

Climbing to airy heights is the order of the day in a real Berlin Forest Park. The Wuhlheide Climbing Forest is Berlin’s first climbing forest. It is located directly at the FEZ Berlin. Children and adults climb together here.

Duration of visit approx. 2 hours.

Experience 2: Nature and Environment House HNU

Then you cycle to the Nature and Environment House (approx. 1km), a green oasis. A 17,000 square metre outdoor area awaits you there with ponds, outdoor terrarium, animal enclosures, petting zoo and paddock. 300 animals can be seen here. You can also build up your strength with a tasty lunch.

Duration of visit: approx. 1.5 hours

Experience 3: Park Railway

From HNU it is not far to the station of the Park Railway (500m). Children from the age of 9 and teenagers run this real (small) railway themselves under the guidance of volunteer adults. From the steam locomotive built in 1918 to the most modern diesel locomotive built in 2012, with historical and modernised carriages, the development of the railway can be shown as well as many technical installations.

Duration of visit: approx. 30 minutes

Experience 4: Model Park

After the train ride cycle to the Model Park (about 2km). Only a few steps from Pfaueninsel to the world-famous Rheinsberg Castle? See the dome of the Reichstag from above? Or capture the scale of the Spandau Citadel at a glance? The Model Park Berlin-Brandenburg offers its visitors more than 80 models of architectural highlights of the Berlin and Brandenburg sights.

Duration of visit: approx. 45 minutes

At the end of an eventful day you can cycle to the S-Bahnhof Karlshorst (approx. 2km) or cycle along the R1 on the banks of the Spree.
